What is Noblr car insurance company?
In 2021, USAA acquired Noblr car insurance company to quickly and efficiently provide USAA members with usage-based insurance (UBI) policies.
USAA provides some of the best car insurance for veterans, active military personnel, and their immediate family members. So civilians need to look elsewhere for coverage. (For more information, read our “Best Car Insurance for Veterans and Military Personnel“).
To buy Noblr car insurance, you must be a USAA member. But if you’re eligible, you can sign up for membership while applying for Noblr car insurance quotes.
UBI car insurance policies use telematics technology to gather data about your real-time driving behaviors. Noblr uses a mobile app compatible with most Apple and Android devices.
The mobile app tracks your speed, braking events, time of day, number of miles driven, focused driving, and road choices.
Each month, you receive a driver score in the app that impacts your monthly variable rate. You also pay a lower monthly base rate that does not change.
You earn your lowest possible variable rates by maintaining a driver score of 100 for multiple consecutive months.
Noblr guarantees that your rate cannot exceed an agreed-upon amount for the first six months of your policy for new customers.
In the table below, learn precisely what driving behaviors the Noblr mobile app tracks and see tips for earning your highest possible driver score.
Driving Behaviors Evaluated by Noblr Car Insurance Company
Driving Behavior | Details |
---|---|
Focus | To earn the highest score, don't use your phone or touch the screen while driving. |
Mileage | Drive fewer miles to earn a higher score. |
Road choices | Drive on highways more often than city roads, as highway driving is statistically safer. |
Smoothness | Hard braking events and speeding negatively impact your score. |
Time of day | Because nighttime driving is statistically more dangerous, driving between the hours of 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. negatively impacts your score. |
At this time, Noblr sells UBI policies in eight states, including Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana, Maryland, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas. However, the company plans to expand to other parts of the country over the next three years.
Where you live also impacts what driving behaviors impact your driver score. For example, road choices do not contribute to your rate in Maryland or Pennsylvania.
Fortunately, UBI policies provide the same car insurance coverages as traditional policies. So you can purchase liability insurance, collision insurance, and comprehensive coverage through Noblr.
In select states, the company also provides medical payments (MedPay) coverage and personal injury protection (PIP).
As optional policy add-ons, you can also purchase rental car coverage and accident forgiveness from Noblr.

How do you request Noblr car insurance quotes?
To request Noblr car insurance quotes, visit the company website. You may use one of the online quote tools or call the company directly to speak with a customer service representative.
Remember, you must be a USAA member to qualify for coverage, and USAA is a military company. You can apply while requesting your Noblr quote if you are eligible for membership.
Once you receive your quote, you must download the Noblr mobile app and follow the prompts to create your account.
If you add additional drivers to your policy, they must also create unique logins.
Ensure your location and motion settings are enabled within your device for the most accurate score. For iOS users, ‘Motion & Fitness’ must also be allowed.
Then, you’re ready to start driving. The app automatically collects information about your trips. Plus, you can see details about your driver score directly in the app at any time.
Don’t forget, new customers’ rates do not exceed the agreed-upon amount for the first six months of your policy, regardless of how you drive.
You can use that time to learn how to drive safely and earn your highest possible Noblr driver score.
What are the average Noblr car insurance rates?
Unfortunately, Noblr car insurance rates are currently not publicly available. But if you request a quote, you can compare it to the national average cost of car insurance.
The average cost of car insurance is $99.16 per month or $1,190 annually.
Plus, you can also compare your Noblr car insurance quotes to the average insurance cost in the state you live in.
The table below shows the average annual car insurance expenditures as reported by the Insurance Information Institute (III) in the eight states where Noblr operates.
Average Annual Car Insurance Expenditures by State
States | Average Annual Car Insurance Expenditures |
---|---|
Arizona | $1,046.40 |
Colorado | $1,132.81 |
Louisiana | $1,545.82 |
Maryland | $1,211.83 |
New Mexico | $915.62 |
Ohio | $794.91 |
Pennsylvania | $991.23 |
Texas | $1,152.25 |
USAA owns Noblr, so it’s possible the rates from the two companies may look very similar. Nationally, car insurance through USAA costs $161 per month or $1,932 annually on average.
However, USAA offers traditional policies, and your quote typically does not change from month to month, whereas Noblr rates are broken into fixed and variable monthly payments.
Based on your driving score, Noblr insurance costs may change from month to month.
Currently, Noblr does not say how much a driver can save by maintaining the highest possible driver score of 100.
However, the website does state that you earn your lowest possible rates by getting a score of 100 for multiple consecutive months.

How do you file a claim with Noblr?
To file Noblr car insurance claims, access your mobile app or call a Noblr representative directly. The claims center in your mobile app is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Noblr representatives, however, only answer the phones during regular business hours and are unavailable on the weekends.
Unlike many other insurance companies, there is no claims center on the company website.
For customer convenience, you may file glass and regular claims in the same section of the mobile app where you access your ID cards and contact roadside assistance.
Be aware that some customers poorly reviewed the Noblr claims center. For example, people claimed the representatives did not answer the phones during operational business hours.
Other reviews mention slow turnaround times and underperforming customer service.
It is very common for insurance companies to receive primarily negative online reviews. However, keep these experiences in mind while you shop around for your best car insurance coverage.

Does Noblr offer car insurance discounts?
At this time, Noblr does not list any car insurance discounts on the company website. But you do earn something called Noblr Rewards that discount the variable portion of your policy.
The primary way you earn Noblr Rewards is through your driver score.
However, you also earn rewards by purchasing a policy as a new customer, paying for the fixed portion of your policy in full, and by renewing your policy at the end of your term.
What are the Noblr financial ratings and customer reviews?
Looking at an insurance company’s financial ratings and customer reviews helps you determine if the company is reliable before actually purchasing a policy.
Fortunately, Noblr is backed by USAA, one of the leading car insurance companies. USAA earned a score of A++ from the credit rating agency A.M. Best.
So you can trust Noblr to close out your claims and follow through on all obligations to policyholders. But when it comes to customer reviews, Noblr falls slightly behind.
The company is accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and earned an A- rating. However, customers gave it only 1.79-stars out of 5.
Similarly, according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), Noblr has a complaint index of 21.12. The median is always set to 1.00, and lower scores are better.
So a 21.12 means Noblr received many more complaints than the median. By comparison, the parent company, USAA, has a complaint index of only 1.90.
The most common customer complaints include variable rates increasing for reasons unknown to the customer, an unresponsive or slow claims center, hidden cancellation fees in some states, and poor customer service.
Cheap rates are not the only thing that makes a car insurance policy great. It’s also important that the company you use is easy to interact with, especially during stressful situations like a car accident.
So keep these Noblr insurance ratings and reviews in mind while comparing the best car insurance companies.
How does Noblr use your data?
All UBI policies gather and store data about you and your driving behaviors. People concerned with privacy may want to know precisely how Noblr uses this data.
According to the company website, Noblr never shares your data or information without your permission. Plus, your data is stored in an encrypted environment for your security.
The privacy policy states that Noblr can use the data for developing new services as well as for analytic and marketing purposes.
You do have the option to request to access, amend, delete, or correct the data Noblr collects about you. To do so, you must submit a written form.
However, even if your request to delete your information is approved, the company may still keep a copy of your data for administrative purposes.
Ultimately, Noblr uses and stores your data similarly to most other UBI programs. Plus, the company does make efforts to maintain your privacy and security.
However, if this concerns you, then a UBI policy likely is not the best fit for you. For more information about data or any privacy concerns, contact a Noblr representative.

Does Noblr sell other insurance products?
At this time, Noblr does not offer any other insurance products besides usage-based car insurance policies.
Instead, the company focuses only on UBI policies to provide customers with the cheapest possible rates and the best coverage.
However, USAA does partner with other companies to provide different insurance lines to USAA members.
For example, the company partners with Hippo Insurance to offer condo and homeowners insurance policies.
Toggle, a Farmers company brand, sells renters insurance to USAA members with rates starting as low as $5 per month.
Plus, RLI, an American company, sells property and casualty insurance to members as well. Keep in mind that availability varies by state.
You can find more information about these insurance products on the Noblr website or by contacting a customer service representative during normal business hours.
What is the history of the Noblr?
Originally an insurtech company, Noblr was founded by Gary Tolman and Jason Foucher in 2017. Before starting Noblr, Tolman was the president of Esurance from 2000 through 2015.
But in 2021, USAA acquired Noblr in an effort to roll out UBI policies for interested USAA members quickly.
The purchase happened after USAA experienced a massive increase in the participation of the behavior-based discount program called SafePilot.
In 2020, the SafePilot program grew by 200%, with nearly half of all new members opting to enroll.
Today, the company plans on keeping both Noblr and SafePilot as two separate entities.
This gives USAA members the option to choose between traditional car insurance policies through USAA or UBI policies through Noblr.
Noblr currently only operates in eight states. However, the company plans to expand to the rest of the country over the next three years.
Noblr Car Insurance: The Bottom Line
If you’re a USAA member interested in trying out a UBI policy, then look into using Noblr insurance. This company was created with you in mind.
In particular, Noblr is ideal for low-mileage drivers with clean records who do not often drive during busy traffic hours or unusual times of the day.
You can earn $25 referral bonuses by recommending the company to friends.
However, some customer reviews for Noblr are unfortunately poor. Plus, people with imperfect driving records or new drivers still learning may not earn the lowest possible quotes from this company. (For more information, read our “Best Car Insurance for New Drivers Under 25“).
